First of all, the sun still feels “warm” in the winter when it’s out, and there’s a lot of clear days in the winter with around 270 days of sunshine in a year. Our snowbird guests love to sit outside in a light sweatshirt on a clear day and soak up the bright sunshine. As for snow, we call it “a perfect snowfall” most times, snowing only around 5-6 times in a winter an inch or two which dries up on the roads, providing safe roads but with the pretty coating of snowfall generally by the very next day. Mostly we just let the strong sunshine burn off any snow on our sidewalks. Experiencing the unique sensations of Santa Fe in winter is worth a trip, which is 2 hours from The Sundance Inn. The air is full of the aromatic scent of Pinyon smoke, and many restaurant or hotel lobbies provide the special ambiance of a large crackling Kiva fireplace, usually high enough to place your feet on the hearth to warm them up while you enjoy a mug of Mexican hot cocoa with cinnamon. Evening finds homes in New Mexico lit with “farolitos” and the Santa Fe Plaza is full of a rainbow of holiday lights on the tall trees there. It’s an ambiance unique to New Mexico and worth experiencing once in your life. The Sundance is a cozy and affordable option to enjoy the sunshine and unique sights of New Mexico in the (mostly clear & dry) winter here.
